Object of the Bill

The object of this Bill is to repeal and replace the Presidential Emoluments and Benefits Act, Cap.263; to provide for the salaries allowances, retirement benefits and benefits of spouses and dependent children of Presidents and Vice Presidents ceasing to hold office and in particular to provide for the office of Prime Minister arising out of the formalization of the office of Prime Minister by the Constitution (Amendment) Act, 2005 (section 30 introducing article 108A of the Constitution).
Article 108(6) of the Constitution applies to the Prime Minister with necessary modifications the provisions of article 108(6) relating to the Vice President’s emoluments.

Waiting for Assent. Bill is waiting for the President to assent to it. When the Floor of Parliament has passed a Bill, it shall be presented to the President, and the President shall declare either that he assents to the Bill or that he withholds assent.

The Bill is now an Act of Parliament. When a Bill has completed all its parliamentary stages on the floor of Parliament, it must have President Assent before becoming an Act of Parliament (law). President Assent is the State agreement to make the Bill into an Act and it is a formality.
