Object of the Bill

The object of this Bill is to regulate the provision of legal aid services by legal aid service providers in Uganda; to make provision for the grant of legal aid services to indigent; marginalised and vulnerable persons; to make provision for eligibility for the grant of legal aid; to make provision for the termination of legal aid; to make provision for the payment of court fees, costs and damages by an aided person; to create a Legal Aid Funding Account; to recognise Legal Aid service Schemes existing in Uganda; to continue in existence Justice Centres Uganda; to amend the poor persons Defence Act; and for other related matters.
